I sat down with Felix from YOUVAVUM last week to find out a little more about his T-shirt brand. I had seen some of his T-shirts around and loved the Salzburg-inspired designs so I wanted to learn a little bit more about what makes these T-shirts so special.
Felix started YOUVAVUM two years ago out of the simple need for a T-shirt that represented Salzburg, but nothing too touristy - "Most of the shirts you get in Salzburg are either super touristy or have a big Salzburg text just across the chest and that was a little bit too much for me, so I started to look for motives I like and thought you know what? I will just design one myself." ... and that is how design #1 came around, the one with the 1905 map of the city printed on its back.
The next step was getting a name, and following the moto, it couldn't be anything obvious, so diving a bit into history he found out that the Romans used the name Juvavum for the city, back when it was still a Roman installment. To make it a little bit cooler, he thought about mixing a bit of English into it, swapping the J for you. So yes, YOUVAVUM is literally made for you, the people of Salzburg.
The inspiration for his cool designs comes from the city, two years into producing, YOUVAVUM is now up to design number six, and there are no plans where it will stop. “Sometimes I have ideas for two designs in a month, other times it takes a year for a design to come to me, I just try to soak up whatever Salzburg offers, and when I think something would look cool on a T-shirt, I put it on a T-shirt...”
And in a world where we are constantly making an effort to live a little greener, YOUVAVUM is one of the brands that make it easier for you. Felix looks for some of the best quality "plain shirts" he can get, these are made out of organic cotton, vegan, and fairware, and they are produced without the use of toxic colors. If that still doesn't sound good enough, they are also locally printed at the GWS - one of the biggest employees for people with disabilities.
So yes, this is the cool, environmentally friendly, socially conscious brand you were looking for!
