Flavourama Volunteer Program

At first, I felt a little silly as I would probably be one of the oldest volunteers, but I thought the experience was worth swallowing my pride and I am very happy I did, it ended up that I was not the oldest and even if I were, the experience was super worth it.
The volunteer program is aimed at getting some well-needed support during the days leading up to the festival and the festival itself. I volunteered for four days and I did a little of everything, from carrying a sign to sitting behind the ticket counter, making sure the big numbers on stage wouldn't melt (I failed that one) and so on...

It can be hard work, but hard work with amazing home-cooked vegan meals (the kitchen crew kept us fed and happy the whole time) the option to sign up for workshops and join the events the days you are not volunteering and you get to rub shoulders with some of the best people in the business. I have one name for you: Little Shao

In its sixteen years of existence, Flavourama has not only changed the narrative of how street culture is perceived in Salzburg but has also achieved international acclaim. The three directors behind Flav, Farah Deen, Olivia Mitterhuemer, and Elena Rainer are incredibly conscious of their community and how they can use their influence to improve it, whether it is by bringing awareness of safety within the street culture or answering all of the volunteer's questions during community day. There is so much to learn here and you do so while having a great time and meeting great people.
