Eleven Eleven

Eleven Eleven is a traditional Syrian restaurant nestled in the Kaiviertel, and it truly stands out as a wonderful gastronomical addition to Salzburg. This family-run establishment makes you feel right at home the moment you walk in. When I reached out for a chat, Anmar, who helps run the restaurant, kindly agreed to sit down with me.

Although Eleven Eleven has only been part of the Salzburg scene since 2020, the culinary expertise behind it spans decades. Albir Alhaddad, the main chef and Anmar’s father, brings over 40 years of experience in gastronomy from Syria. This deep-rooted knowledge and passion for food are apparent in every bite of their dishes.

The food here is made fresh to order, using high-quality ingredients and crafted with an abundance of love. We've visited a few times by now, and each visit has brought delightful surprises. Even familiar dishes like hummus become a revelation, bursting with flavors that make it seem like you're trying them for the first time. I can’t recommend the Maklubeh enough—it's a savory mix of eggplant with rice, meat, and pine nuts. And the Schwarma teller will blow your mind with its perfectly seasoned bite-sized rolls.

Don’t forget the desserts—particularly the Baklava paired with Syrian ice cream. I’m not usually into sweets, but this ice cream is the perfect mix of simple and outstanding flavor.

Eleven Eleven also offers takeout options and a daily-changing lunch menu that’s ideal for a budget-friendly lunch break. It’s one of my secret go-to spots for special occasions, providing a much-needed diversity from the sea of schnitzel and pizza offerings around town, and doing so with exceptional quality and truly special food.

I only have to agree with the description on their website: this is the place where Syrian food is heaven.
